Best Time to Visit

May to November for calm seas, clear visibility (20-30m), and comfortable temperatures. October to March for whale shark encounters. Diving is possible year-round though visibility drops in the wet season.

Bazaruto is a luxury destination. Island lodges (andBeyond Benguerra, Anantara Bazaruto) $500-3,000/night all-inclusive. Budget options are limited — basic mainland accommodation in Vilankulo from $30-80/night with day trip boat access to the islands. Diving $50-80/dive.

Getting There

Fly to Vilankulo Airport from Johannesburg (2hrs) or Maputo (1hr). Boat transfers to the islands take 30-60 minutes. Helicopter transfers available from luxury lodges. Vilankulo is 8 hours north of Maputo by road (EN1).
